Summer Circles 2018

Circle Art summer 2018

As a member of IUOMA I participated in the Summer Circles group that exchanged mail art themed on circles during June-September 2018.  I made circle postcards using drawing pen and water colour with collage elements mainly.  I also experimented with gelatos and texture art medium.

Ironic Angels

Ironic Angel Card

Angels always creeped me out a little, even before Dr. Who. Texture paste through a stencil, gelatos, pens, collage.

Sunflower Conspiracy

Sun Flower Conspiracy

I sent a series of cards based on the idea that one couldn’t really trust flowers. They were a little shifty.

Paper Dolls

In 2017-18 I began to work with Tangle Art and was also continuing on with my mail art.  I began to noodle about with interventions on vintage fashion photos and out of that came a series of postcards that I called “Paper Dolls”.  I either made new clothes for the “dolls” or I augmented their surroundings.  I think the absurdity of the poses was a large motivator to me, as a feminist.  But the approach was light-hearted for the most part.

Summer Travel Mail Art 2017

During a road trip to the Canadian maritime provinces in summer 2017, I embarked on a project to make and send cards constructed of ephemera and cuttings from maps, travel brochures, and advertisements encountered randomly on the journey.

About Mail Art

Mail Art Ready To Send

Over the past couple of years I have been slowly getting back into visual arts by taking the occasional course and participating in some projects.  Mail art has become a fun way for me to play with visual arts in a social way.  Participating in groups and projects gives me just enough social pressure to keep producing even on days when new ideas flag.
My first mail art project was on the theme of memory and both a mailable and handmade envelope were required.
